You did it! Thanks to the support from all of you, the Kickstarter for Sunshine Manor is now funded!

But wait, there's more! We still have 11 days to go, and that means it's now time for you to help us towards unlocking some Stretch Goals for Sunshine Manor! We'll be talking about Stretch Goals tomorrow, so be ready!

Meet The Sprinters
over 3 years ago – Fri, Oct 23, 2020 at 11:23:19 PM

While working on the Demon Realm, we set out to create a menagerie of baddies that would hamper your attempts of freeing the trapped spirits. The first one in our list was a patrolling demon that would meander around various locations while also having a true line of sight gameplay mechanic… so that they could spot you and give chase!

Sprinters are tough little buggers who, as their name suggests, are faster than Ada. The good news is that they have a short range of action. If they get close, they’ll strike and hurt you, so I suggest that you sneak up on them and then take them out with your psychic powers … or avoid them altogether by using the decorations and furniture in the various rooms that can aid you!

And later in the game, you’ll also be able to distract the Sprinters with gruesome food you can leave for them to feast on!

Fun Fact

Sprinters have the most code in the game thanks to a whole bunch of alert systems that they need to behave the way they do. They can hear things like water splashes, and can even alert their friends if they need help chasing you down.

We also wanted to give you a heads-up about a Kickstarter project that is doing wonderfully: Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition!

Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition is a farming adventure where you will have to take care of your tiny planet. Farm, craft, fight and explore the universe of Deiland in this adventure with exclusive content for Nintendo Switch.

Discover the story of Arco in this single-player experience, a tale about growing up, helping others and revealing the secrets that lie on the heart of your planet. We’ve crafted a relaxing game, with a strong narrative and a cast of diverse characters for you to meet.

Musical Interlude #1
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 22, 2020 at 06:50:03 AM

It's time for a new Kickstarter update! Wednesday is in full swing, and we're thrilled to announce that Sunshine Manor is now 90% funded! For today's update, we want to give you a chance to check out some of the songs that will be included in the Sunshine Manor soundtrack - which you can get in physical format on an old-school cassette by pledging for a Kickstarter Exclusive Nintendo Switch Sunshine Edition of the Sunshine Anthology!

For Camp Sunshine, music became an integral part of the game. We worked hard to build up a soundtrack that would be integral to the experience!

For Sunshine Manor, rather than just creating generic background music, we wanted to build up motifs and themes that ran through the entire soundtrack, that would hopefully contribute towards complementing the themes of the characters.

To retain the 1980s infused feel of the game, we are using synthesizers such as the classic Yamaha DX7, the Yamaha CS80 and the Roland Jupiter 8!

For today’s update, we wanted to give you an idea of what you’ll get to hear in Sunshine Manor, so here are a couple of previews for your journey through the demon realm!

Before we go, we wanted to talk a bit about another project on Kickstarter you might want to check out: Early Haunts!

Early Haunts is a 100-page graphic novel anthology that brings together early ghosts stories that inspired the creation of literary classics such as Frankenstein! These stories include The House in Athens, The Death Bride, The Wild Huntsman, and The Tale from Dish Mansion.

The Early Haunts campaign is working towards reaching some bonus stretch goals, on top of the already unlocked limited edition art print, and the augmented reality animated pages!

Who’s a Good Boy!?
over 3 years ago – Wed, Oct 21, 2020 at 06:34:03 PM

With 18 days to go, Sunshine Manor is now over 85% funded! Before starting with today's update, we want to talk about something you've been asking us about.

After Friday's feature on Graham Humpreys, we've had many requests for having the cover art he'll be working on for the Sunshine Anthology available as a print, and we're here to bring you great news!

There's now a new reward tier called Dream Warriors, which features a Limited Edition Print for the cover art that Graham Humpreys will be providing as the Kickstarter Exclusive art for the Sunshine Anthology physical Nintendo Switch edition. The even better news? Graham Humpreys will sign this print! That's right, if you hurry up and pledge for the Dream Warriors reward tier, you can get a Limited Edition Print signed by Graham Humpreys himself! There's a very limited number of signed prints available, so when they're gone, they're gone!

Also, a ton of you are currently pledging for a physical Premium Edition Nintendo Switch copy of the Sunshine Anthology with all of its Kickstarter Exclusive items - or for the Kickstarter Exclusive Sunshine Edition - and have asked us if there was a way to pledge for additional copies of the Premium Edition or the Sunshine Edition. Well, today we're here to tell you there most certainly is a way for you to do this!

If you want an extra copy of the Premium Edition Nintendo Switch physical copy, you can add £45 to your current pledge without changing your reward tier.

If you want to add an extra copy of the Kickstarter Exclusive Sunshine Edition, then you can add £89 to your current pledge without changing your reward tier.

As we've mentioned before, shipping costs will be collected next year once your physical rewards are ready to ship. And now, back to our regularly scheduled content!

Gnarlie is a character that we’ve wanted to include in a game for a long time. We originally had plans to have a pet in Camp Sunshine, but it just didn’t click with the overall feeling of helplessness we wanted to be a constant in that adventure. Who’d be afraid when they have this loveable mutt by their side?

We’ve spent a lot of time on Gnarlie’s behavior, since we found that in a lot of games pets can be a little frustrating when you’re trying to battling the bad guys, only for your pet to get in the way!

Gnarlie is a good boy, and knows when to keep himself to himself and sit in the corner, but he also knows when The Shadow Man is close by, and will ruff and bark to let you know he’s coming!

See that little knapsack around his neck? You can use that for some extra storage so you don’t lose all the important items you’ll find as you travel between the human and demon realms!

Fun Fact

Gnarlie’s look is actually modelled after one of our real-life dogs … so please be extra kind to him!

Our Cover Artist: Graham Humpreys!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Oct 16, 2020 at 06:16:14 PM

What a week it's been! The Kickstarter for Sunshine Manor, and thanks to all of your support, we're now at over 75% funded! Once again, thank you for believing in what we're setting out to do with the game.

For today's update, we have something a bit different!

British illustrator and visual artist Graham Humpreys will be working on a Kickstarter limited edition cover for the physical Premium Edition for Sunshine Anthology, so we got in touch with him to have a chat about his work, horror movies, and more!

What are your go-to recommendations for horror movies?

I love all things Hammer Horror... I know that by today’s standards, they seem quaintly old-fashioned and theatrical, but I’m fascinated by the levels of transgression that they achieved at the time - if film reviews were anything to go by! Like many other audience members, I’ve developed a deep appreciation of British ‘folk horror,’ exemplified by ‘The Witchfinder General,’ ‘Blood On Satan’s Claw,’ and ‘The Wicker Man.’ Each has film locations that are easily visited, many unchanged - and with historical buildings that provide a sense of time and place beyond the screen images.

The last film that made me grip my seat was the Norwegian ‘The Quake’ - not strictly horror, but still ticking all the boxes!

There is a great joy to be found in much-maligned ‘Night Train to Terror.’

Out of all of the posters you have done, which ones are you most proud of?

Freddy’s Revenge still hits the spot. Whereas my A Nightmare On Elm Street poster attempted a subtle muted approach - the knived glove aside - Nightmare 2 concealed nothing and shouted Freddy with bright primary colours... completely outside of the horror tradition.

Do you play any video games? If so, which ones are your favourites?

It’s a pastime that has never been on the radar. ‘Pong’ was the first and last game I ever played! Although, oddly enough, I have painted art for a number of games.

Can you talk about your process for posters?

It’s my duty to present new angles on familiar tropes. On the premise that a poster is required for a re-issue, I’ll watch the film a number of times to study the narrative and identify the key moments and the most effective ways for conveying characters. This will involve making screen grabs and filtering out the least effective images.

I compose my layouts by tracing the stills to create a store of elements, and these are then composed in photoshop to create narrative threads and maximize impact. Once a layout is approved, I’ll use the original source grabs photoshopped over the sketch layout, to provide the best possible reference, then go straight to artwork.

This begins with a trace of the reference on the paper, followed by a wash of colour that will establish the basic palette. - the rest is all in the paintwork.

Placement of a title and supporting text has to be considered from the outset. These are applied after the art is finished, in the appropriate software, allowing for editing, positioning, and changes.

The process is similar for a new film... though more cunning is required!

Who are your current favourite artists?

No favourites. I try to appreciate each artist’s merits on their individual strengths, techniques, and visual approach - not a cop-out, just a fact. Naturally, some pieces will stand out more than others, and the subject matter will influence the appeal.

Who would win in a fight between Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, Chucky, and The Candyman?

The public… They decide who they want to pay to see! Or the screenwriters, as they have the power to decide what tenuous means will empower one character over another. In addition, they are all dead already, so nobody wins because they just come back anyway!

Before we go, we wanted to bring your attention to another project that is currently live on Kickstarter: Romancelvania

This one is brought to you by The Deep End Games, who previously released Perception on Nintendo Switch. If the name didn’t clue you into things, Romancelvania is a thirsty Metroidvania type of game! You’ll be playing through an action RPG as Drac himself – the timeless ultimate playboy.

He’ll be slaying his way through Transylvania after being recruited for a reality dating show by the Grim Reaper itself. Can you help him slay hundreds of monsters on his quest to find the world’s most eligible monsters. By backing the Kickstarter, you can pledge for a physical copy of the game on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, or Nintendo Switch... and tell them the Sunshine Manor Kickstarter sent you!
